Located in NTT Regions from Savu Island, East Sumba, Mbolaso and Palu’e Island, the artisans produce woven fabrics such as Savu sarong and shawl (ikat technique), Pahikung sarong and shawl, Palu’e sarong and shawl (ikat technique).
They now collaborated with Rumah Rakuji, produce marvelous yet eco friendly products.
Savu Island
Tobias
Mr. Tobias, born on 31st April 1979, a Savu weaver from Kupang, NTT, has learned weaving since 17 years old, he learned weaving by himself. His interest in weaving appeared because of the culture of Savu such as marriage tradition. One sarong/textile spent around 2 weeks of the hand-made making process, from ikat to weave process.
East Sumba
Ana Uma
Mrs. Ana Uma, born on 11st December 1986, a weaver from Pau, Desa Watuhadang, Umalulu, East Sumba, NTT, she has learned weaving since 9 years old. She learned it self-taught by observing her mother and grandmother. In her spare time, she likes to read book and gather with her family. In one month,she can weave one sarong and/or four Pahikung shawls.
Mbolaso / Palu'e Island
Erniwati
Mrs. Erniwati Lali, born on 26th November 1975, a mother of three children and also a Mbolaso weaver from Hewuli, NTT, she has learned weaving since 20 years old, but she already learned bind the ‘ikat’ from 6 years old. She learned it from her grandmother. In one month, she can weave two sarongs.
