Rumah Rakuji was established in 2002 by its founder Myra Widiono. Myra got her first degree as an Architect from ITB and second degree in the Building Management Study from University College London.
She started to have passion in art product from her relation to group of friends with the same interest. Rumah Rakuji was initially intended to accommodate sharing and discussions among this group, but soon it became a real work horse for the expanded interest of this group.
The real change come after Myra completed her assignment in DEKRANAS, in a period of exposure to the wealth of Indonesia‘s cultural heritage. She is completely attracted by culture and tradition of Dayak Benuaq tribes especially to their ulap doyo textile.
Collaborative works with Tunas Mekar Batubura at Tanjung Isuy has resulted in development of Ulap Doyo with natural dye coloring. Rumah Rakuji was then become shelter for traditional weavers and their numbers are keep growing, presently not less than 50 artisans with different specialization are listed members.
