Rumah Rakuji’s Candramani Pillow Cushion has been honored with the Good Design Indonesia Award 2026, an award organized by the Directorate of Export Development for Services and Creative Products, Indonesia Design Development Center (IDDC), under the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia.
Inspired by the enchanting seas of Indonesia as an archipelagic nation, Candramani translates the beauty of hidden pearls into a contemporary pillow cushion that embodies a modern and elegant aesthetic.
Each Candramani is handmade using Congkok leaf fiber (Curculigo capitulata), a natural fiber derived from plants growing in the forests of Mount Geulis, Sumedang. The fiber undergoes a meticulous process of preparation, spinning, and weaving using a non-mechanized loom (Alat Tenun Bukan Mesin/ATBM) by skilled artisans in Majalaya. This traditional process creates an authentic texture with a distinctive and richly expressive character.
The design is further enhanced through the application of smocking, forming an elegant diamond-shaped pattern that creates both visual dimension and a distinctive tactile quality. As a finishing touch, Candramani is adorned with tassels made from naturally colored 30/2 Tencel yarn, embellished with beads from Jombang, adding another layer of detail to the piece.
The Candramani Pillow Cushion represents a cross-regional collaboration across Indonesia, bringing together natural materials, traditional craftsmanship, and contemporary design. The result is a piece that is not only visually refined, but also reflects innovation, sustainability, and the richness of Indonesia’s craft heritage. 🌿
